The pre-production step is crucial when determining the tone and signature sound of an album or project. Arrangement is the process of taking the defining ideas of your music and reimagining them in an entirely new context. It opens new creative avenues and allows you to branch out of your comfort zone, without said discomfort. Want to hear your melody into a whole other genre? Think a choir at the end of your song would be nice? What would that bass line sound like if it were more jazzy? Or adversely, want to take an existing piece of music and adapt it to your genre? Arrangement is the way to go.

Akin to arrangement, orchestration is the art of translating and expanding music into orchestral format. This process can add depth, beauty, intensity and emotion to your music. Schooled by the industry's finest (Norman Ludwin, Inon Zur, Benoît Groulx, Jonathan Dagenais), Hybrid Sound's orchestrators pride themselves on their ability to take musical ideas to new heights.

This step consists of capturing ideas onto media. From the performance itself, down to the choice of microphones and their placement, Hybrid Sound's expertise leaves nothing to luck. A simple change in playing dynamics, mic angle, tuning or volume can drastically change a recording. With Hybrid Sound, you can simply focus on your performance, while we keep an ear out for the rest.

Editing is a vital step of production. It consists of sifting through multiple takes in order to compile the best performances together, then aligning them onto metric and pitch grids. This tedious process yields that tight, punchy and precise sound we've come to expect from a professional recording. Does it take away the "human factor"? Not at all! Our alignment technique is transparent and non-destructive, meaning it can always be altered or reverted along the way, if desired.

 This part of the music production process is the metaphorical icing on the cake. During this step, we add substance to the music - in check with the artistic vision defined in the preproduction step. These little details add breath, texture, and "ear candies" to the listener's experience, which contribute greatly to making your music a memorable piece. This is where your producer's creativity comes into play, in order to make you shine, also referred to by Daniel Lanois as the "home sound".

Mixing is the core process of music production. It is during this step that all tracks are balanced, enhanced, filtered and made to play nice together. There are many approaches to mixing, but here at Hybrid Sound, we believe a good recording source does most of the heavy lifting. We work to keep the essence of the performance intact, while improving dynamic cohesiveness. This approach is derived from what is known as top-down mixing.

The final step of production, mastering is the postproduction step of final balancing and level matching the audio's volume to the desired format or medium. A good mastering often brings out loudness, detail, grain and polishing into your music, turning it into a finished product and ready to publish.
